My advertising goes live
It’s the first time I have tried out advertising in local magazines. This is a trial run to see if this approach garners any leads or not. The adverts go live this week !

A challenging migration
I’ve been working with a client who has been trying to dis-entangle themselves from their encumbant agency. The first challenge being to migrate their WordPress site to a new server. What I found was a site built in a very non-standard way, accompanied by a huge database. With some patience and perseverance though I was able to sort it out and relieve the client of this particular headache, enabling them to start cutting the ties with the old agency.

Astro – looking up
Though I am very invested in WordPress as a platform, other frameworks are always of interest. One that has caught my eye recently is Astro (astro.build), a web framework for building content-driven websites that load fast.
I like what I have learned so far and I will be investing more time into it during downtime between projects. Hopefully a suitable project will pop up in the future where I can make use of it, or offer it as an alternative to WordPress to my clients. So watch this space.

MyCareers – online learning website
This month I have been building some new modules for the My Careers website. A site that I did the original development work on in 2024. The new modules are for careers in digital technology and provide information about what types of careers are available in this field. You can also earn digital badges, to demonstrate your learning, which is implemented through Navigatr (navigatr.app).
The digital technology modules will go live in the coming month.

The Weald website
The Weald is collection of properties in Mindenhurst that is being refurbished for rental. This month I have been updating the site, that I built last year, with information about the next set of properties to be released.

Zed – code-editor
I have been looking at possibly changing the code-editor app that I use, and recently came across Zed (zed.dev). My preference has always been with using fast, lightweight editors and first impressions is that Zed fits the bill. I’ll be giving it a trial to see how it fares.

Local advertising
I have always largely relied on word-of-mouth for reaching new customers as, let’s face it, advertising can be expensive. But for the first time I am going to try out some printed advertising for my business in local magazines. It will be interesting to see if there is any return on my investment.
